Planning commission disapproves multiple preliminary plats for Georgetown subdivision

The Friendswood Planning & Zoning Commission on April 9 voted to disapprove preliminary plats K through P for the Georgetown subdivision, citing repeated resubmissions dating to 2018, unresolved staff comments and incomplete coordination with the City of Alvin.

Aubrey, Community Development staff, summarized the items as several roadway and residential section plats with two engineering firms involved and numerous outstanding comments. She told commissioners City of Alvin approval for Georgetown Boulevard section one had not been completed and that several submittals go back multiple years.

Commissioners said the repeated resubmissions have consumed commission and staff time. "This is eating up you guys' time...they need to get it together and come back with a solid plan before we consider this," one commissioner said. Several commissioners said they were reluctant to grant yet another short extension when the project had not addressed prior comments.

The commission moved to disapprove the preliminary plats K–P with reasons documented in staff backup materials. An applicant was not present to explain the outstanding items. The commission also considered a 30‑day extension request for some Georgetown sections; commissioners questioned whether 30 days would allow meaningful progress given the long history of the project. The transcript records a motion to deny the extension and states "Motion declined" during the vote call; the procedural record in the transcript is ambiguous on the final effect of that vote.

Next steps: staff will notify the applicant of disapproval reasons and the plats must be resubmitted with required corrections and any needed interjurisdictional approvals before the commission will reconsider them.
