Staff said the preamble cites feedback from residents and prospective businesses that the current sign ordinance is restrictive and that moving it out of the zoning chapter would allow the city greater flexibility in updating sign placement rules. "Out of zoning specifically just so if they need to make any amendments to the chapter, they no longer have to do any joint public hearings with us as well," a board member said during discussion.
The board voted to recommend a joint public hearing with the city council on April 6; staff will work with the city clerk and the council president to post the required advertising and confirm hearing logistics.
The motion carried on a voice vote and the board asked staff to confirm scheduling with the council president and to advertise the hearing period.
