The Town Council of the Town of Southwest Ranches voted unanimously to accept $587,890 from Broward County to fund design and construction of turn lanes on Dykes Road and to authorize a related purchase order for design services.
Town staff said the grant funds are MAP proceeds from the county surtax and that the town provided Broward County with crash-data analysis showing 43 significant accidents at the I‑75/Griffin Road location in 2023 as part of ongoing safety advocacy. Council members said local homeowners’ associations (Circle S HOA) had expressed appreciation for the town’s work to reduce unsafe U-turns and traffic impacts on HOA property.
Following approval of the grant, the council also approved a $68,215 purchase order for Kimley‑Horn & Associates to prepare the design for the grant-funded turn‑lane project. Council members said adding left- and right‑turn capacity where appropriate would improve flow while helping to preserve two‑lane roadway character elsewhere.
Both items (the grant acceptance and the Kimley‑Horn purchase order) passed on unanimous roll-call votes.
Next steps: Staff will execute the county agreement, oversee the Kimley‑Horn design work, and return to council with project schedules and any required local match or budget amendments.
