Ventnor City Commission approves consent package of resolutions, tables major bids for further review

The Ventnor City Commission on Dec. 19 approved a package of consent resolutions that included multiple tax abatements, personnel actions and several infrastructure contracts, while tabling several large procurement awards for additional review.

The commission adopted resolutions covering the city’s 2025 meeting schedule, winter parking enforcement authority, tax abatements for specific properties, personnel items authorizing payment of unused leave for departing employees, and the hiring of two police officers identified in the agenda. The consent package also included allocations for Chapter 159 revenue for alcohol‑education and rehabilitation programs and a small award for police body‑armor replacement.

Commissioners described a final change order and pedestrian‑safety improvements on Ventnor Avenue (the Little Rock pedestrian signal) that produced a net savings figure described in staff remarks, and they awarded a reconstruction contract for the community basketball court. The commission also approved a sanitary‑sewer replacement contract for Somerset Avenue and discussed related drainage and service replacements as part of the work.

At the meeting the council pulled or tabled three larger bid packages to allow for further review: the boardwalk lumber and fasteners bid and the band shell construction bid were deferred to allow staff and commissioners time to vet bid documents and an addendum that affected the bid opening window. A commissioner requested that one contract be postponed “to allow more time to review” and the body agreed to defer those items to the next meeting.

The commission voted by roll call (three yes votes) to adopt the consent resolutions as amended, with the pulled items held for later consideration. The meeting record shows votes to approve minutes, to pay bills and payroll for the period, and to adopt the listed consent resolutions; specific movers or seconds were not recorded on the audio transcript for those motions.

Commissioners said they expect the deferred bids to return to a future agenda following additional review; the board also added one late resolution authorizing submission of a grant application for habitat restoration/coastal‑resilience work at the Ecco Park concept and noted one recusal on that item due to late notice.
