The Auburn City Council adopted two ordinances on second reading rezoning airport‑owned parcels to industrial zoning, a change the city said is needed to comply with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) guidance.
The first, Ordinance 01052026, rezoned parcel ID 156‑015 from suburban residential to industrial. The council opened and closed the public hearing with no speakers, then approved the ordinance by roll‑call vote (six in favor, none opposed). The motion was moved by Council Walker and seconded by Council Cowan.
The second, Ordinance 0201052026, rezoned parcel ID 107‑011 (previously a mix of industrial and residential zoning because of strip zones) to industrial. That measure also had no public speakers at the hearing and passed by roll‑call vote (six in favor, none opposed); the motion was moved by Council Walker and seconded by Council Duvall.
City staff said both rezonings follow a Planning Board recommendation under chapter 60, article 17, division 2, and are intended to eliminate zoning conflicts that may contravene FAA recommendations for airport land. Council members noted the second reading/public‑hearing process remains in place and that required hearings will be available to the public at second reading.
Both ordinances were adopted and will be reflected on the city zoning map.
