The Pottawattamie County Board of Supervisors on May 5 unanimously approved proclamations naming May 3–9, 2026, as National Travel and Tourism Week and May 6–12, 2026, as National Nurses Week.
The travel proclamation, presented and authorized by the board, cites data from the U.S. Travel Association and Tourism Economics showing travel-related spending and jobs; the proclamation text states, "Simply put ' Travel means business." The proclamation notes Pottawattamie County's position at the crossroads of Interstates 80 and 29 and reports $334.17 million in direct traveler spending in 2024 per Tourism Economics.
The nurses proclamation recognizes local registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, nurse practitioners and other nursing professionals and supports the Nurses Light Up the Sky initiative by directing that the county courthouse and landmarks be lit red in recognition during the week.
