Representatives from the historic‑property start‑up '76 Unboxed told the Frostburg Historic District Commission on May 11 that the company will launch its platform nationally on June 1 and that Frostburg and Mechanicsburg will appear as the two towns featured on the Explore page.
"We're launching nationally June 1, and our explore page will have Frostburg and Mechanicsburg as the only 2 towns on there," said Rachel Thompson, a member of the '76 Unboxed team, as she described recent product improvements. Thompson said the platform's property pages now include larger photos, captions, categories and a residential‑history tab for sharing family histories.
Yumi McClellan, also with '76 Unboxed, outlined local outreach plans intended to increase registrations and content: a social‑media post tied to a Buy Nothing/Give Freely community event where the team will offer one‑on‑one signups, door‑hanger distribution, a presence at Museum Week in June, and coordinated posts that Frostburg staff can reshare. "We'll always make time for Frostburg. This town has become near and dear to our hearts," McClellan said.
The presenters said the site supports a local "historian" role that can be assigned to a trusted volunteer or organization; that role can attach photos and historical timeline entries to specific properties. They invited homeowners and residents to contribute photo albums or family stories by emailing Rachel or by signing up at frostburgmd.76unboxed.com. The team demonstrated that the site uses a one‑time code (no persistent password) for quick signups.
Commissioners suggested several local promotions, including placing flyers in quarterly utility bills, asking Frostburg First to share the link, and showing the platform at an upcoming city council meeting where local media attend. The '76 Unboxed team said it will continue to solicit feedback from Frostburg users after launch and that Frostburg will remain a priority for product testing and feature requests.
The commission did not take any formal action on the presentation. '76 Unboxed representatives pledged to follow up with the commission and community volunteers to increase local participation ahead of and after the June 1 launch.
