Staff reported that an inspection of the school laundry and storage area found glue beneath older tile that may contain asbestos; samples were collected and submitted for testing.
The presenter said the original tile had been removed but the adhesive remained and initial inspection suggests the glue may contain asbestos. The contractor scraped a sample and sent it for analysis; staff expect results in the coming days. If the material tests positive for asbestos, the presenter cited an estimated removal cost of about $3,500; if removal is not required the floor replacement cost was estimated near $3,000.
Staff requested board approval to proceed with necessary upgrades to shelving and flooring pending test results and asked the board to authorize spending as needed within the estimates. The board asked for follow-up once lab results are available and for options from multiple contractors if removal is required.
