Committee discusses parks watering, event revenue and field rentals amid tight water allotment

Members discussed field rentals and recreation fees: staff estimated field rental income at roughly $10,000–$17,000 and said recreation fees bring in about $70,000 while salaries for the recreation coordinator and part-time staff account for additional costs. Committee members expressed concern about declining program enrollment in some activities and whether the city should continue subsidizing programs now drawing fewer participants.
On parks irrigation, staff and members acknowledged limited city water allotments and discussed targeted watering plans to prevent system-wide pressure problems. Staff said Pineview asked parks to water during the day to avoid drawing down system pressure overnight; the committee asked staff to publish a clear plan and to monitor field conditions and safety thresholds if turf becomes too hard.
The committee directed staff to verify event budget offsets for any RAMP or grant-funded activities and to include event revenue lines clearly in the tentative budget materials for council review.
