Grantsville — The Grantsville Veterans Committee voted April 7 to rename its fundraising role to Sponsorship Coordinator and appointed Jolene Jenkins to the position, members said.
Arlene Mair nominated Jolene Jenkins for the newly renamed Sponsorship Coordinator post; Duke North seconded the nomination, and the motion was approved by all members present. The committee recorded the approval during its April meeting after confirming attendance.
The vote came as the committee continued practical planning for its Memorial Day 5K. Members discussed website fees, a participant enrollment program and ordering event T-shirts as part of preparations for the run.
Committee members also received an update on the veterans statue tied to the Memorial Day events. According to the meeting record, the sculptor expects the soldier figure to be completed by the end of the week and the son figure by the end of the month; bronzing is estimated to take four weeks, which the committee said should allow installation before July 4. The committee noted that Phase 1 received approval from the City Council and that they are waiting for the city attorney to sign the contract before finalizing related items.
On funding, Treasurer Dee Mair reported the committee’s account balance at $45,517. Members reviewed grant activity: two grants submitted to Tooele County Tourism and the Tooele County Museum have not yet received responses, and an American Legion grant application was reported as in progress.
The meeting concluded with routine business and an adjournment motion that carried by unanimous consent. The committee recorded attendance from 15 members for the session, including Kaycee Foster, Becky Davis, Arlene Mair, Amanda Mair, Troy Barney, Brent Colledge, Duke North, Dee Mair, Dan Snarr, Wes Peterson, Jolene Jenkins, Truxton Moulton, Megan Moulton, Taylor Fritz and Jake Thomas.
Next steps noted in the minutes were to complete statue bronzing and coordinate photos for the committee’s website, finalize Memorial Day 5K participant enrollment logistics, and follow up on pending grant responses.
