District curriculum committees presented recommendations on May 13 for a slate of instructional materials and the board adopted the packages by voice vote.
Janice Golden, a member of the textbook committee, described Quaver Education’s Quaver Wellness as a flexible, web-based platform that covers elementary health and physical-education standards, provides customizable lesson plans, movement breaks and printable assessments. "It covers every standard," she said, calling the platform engaging and customizable for teachers and families.
Committee presenters also recommended Art of Education for K–12 art; Quaver Music for K–8 music (already used in parts of the district); Hal Leonard's Essential Elements for 5–8 instrumental music; Goodheart-Willcox health skills for middle and high schools; How to Drive for driver education; and McGraw Hill for personal finance. Board members asked about how the Quaver digital resource would be used in classrooms and whether printed materials were available; presenters confirmed lessons and assessments can be printed and that teachers would use the platform to teach standards.
The board moved, seconded and carried the adoptions by voice vote.
