Sycamore board hires Patrick Swan as district treasurer and recognizes student fundraisers, science fair revival

The Sycamore Community Schools Board of Education approved a three‑year contract for Patrick Swan to serve as the district’s treasurer, and paused to recognize student volunteer groups and recent student‑led events.
Board members voted to approve Swan’s contract; the appointment was announced as effective Aug. 1. Patrick Swan, who the board said previously served as treasurer and CFO at Graham Local Schools, thanked the board and said he was eager to join the district.
The board recognized the high school student committee Fashion for the Cure for its 20th anniversary. "This year we raised over $124,000 for the Dragonfly Foundation," said co‑chair Oilia Sidmore, describing about 40 fundraisers and community partnerships that supported the campaign. Advisers Miss Clemp, Miss Katzer and Miss Blackmore were singled out for their support.
Board members also heard from Brooke Roner about reviving the district science fair; she described recruiting judges including a NASA scientist and private‑sector volunteers and said the fair was intended as a legacy project to encourage ongoing student engagement in science.
No further action was required for the recognitions beyond applause and photographs; the treasurer’s contract and routine consent agenda items were approved by roll call.
