Elk Grove Unified trustees heard a detailed timeline and outreach plan for the district’s superintendent search at a special meeting where leadership consultants outlined recruitment, stakeholder input and interview logistics.
Leadership Associates consultants told trustees they will run a multi‑language online survey (English, Spanish, Cantonese, Farsi, Vietnamese and additional languages as needed), hold targeted stakeholder interviews and two community forums, and advertise the position in professional outlets including EdCal and affinity organizations representing Latino, African‑American and Pacific Islander administrators.
Consultants said they will open the posting and solicit applications, then present a vetted, tiered list of top candidates to the board. The board tentatively scheduled a candidate‑selection meeting in mid‑October and full candidate interviews for Saturday, Nov. 8, with a goal of board contract approval in mid‑November so a new superintendent could begin Jan. 1.
Board members and consultants discussed how to structure interview panels. Consultants recommended a three‑panel approach: a community panel (parents and local partners divided by high‑school region), a staff/bargaining‑unit panel (representatives chosen by each bargaining unit), and the board interview. Trustees raised confidentiality concerns about candidate identities, the logistics of including students and community members, and the use‑of‑site validation visits for a finalist.
Jackie Horsch of the search team asked trustees whether they prefer district email for communications and confirmed the consultants will work with staff to arrange two or more in‑district community forums to make participation accessible across the geographically large district. The consultants also requested current compensation comparators so they can post an appropriate salary range.
Trustees gave broad direction on panel composition and asked staff to return with a final schedule and candidate‑review packet. Staff and consultants will continue to refine outreach, particularly to community groups representing families of color and linguistic minority caregivers.
No formal action was taken at the meeting; the board moved into closed session on personnel matters after the consultants’ presentation.
