The Lake County Board of Supervisors voted 5-0 to continue a public hearing on an ordinance to amend Chapter 21, Article 27 of the county code — the county's commercial cannabis regulations — to June 2, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.
The continuance was requested by the board because interviews and time-sensitive business scheduled for the day would have limited the meeting's available time, the Board Chair said. The item had been continued previously from March 10 and April 7, 2026.
Leila Veil of Pillsbury Family Farms urged the board to be more transparent about who requested the continuance. "Again, we, the public, would like more transparency on these items," Veil said, asking whether the board or the Community Development Department had initiated the request.
The Board Chair replied that "this the request for continuance came from the board of supervisors, not from CDD," and noted the scheduling conflict (interviews) as the reason for the request. A supervisor suggested future staff memos explicitly state when the board — rather than a department — requests an action to avoid placing directors' names on memos in a way that could cause confusion.
County staff and supervisors confirmed a redline version of Article 27 has been circulated and "will also be posted when we post for the new agenda," and that a hard copy has been sent via interoffice mail. The director's attorney read the formal motion: to approve the continuance of the public hearing to "06/02/2026 at 1PM." A supervisor moved the motion, it was seconded, and the Chair announced, "Hearing none, that motion carries 5 0."
By voting to continue the hearing, the board delayed formal consideration of the proposed changes to the county's commercial cannabis regulations until the June 2 meeting, when the redline text will be posted and available to the public. The board then recessed to hold closed-session business; the continuance establishes June 2 as the next opportunity for public testimony and formal action on Article 27.
Next steps: the public hearing is scheduled to reconvene on June 2, 2026, at 1:00 p.m.; the county will post the redline amendment to the agenda packet before that meeting.
