The Santa Maria‑Bonita School District board on June 11 adopted the revised 2023–2026 collective bargaining agreement with the Santa Maria Elementary Education Association (SMIA), including a tentative financial settlement appendix.
Dr. Bland presented the revised articles and accompanying appendices (A–I) and noted that the administration filed the required public disclosure documents under AB1200 and related statutes. The presentation included a certification that the district can meet the costs incurred under the agreement for the 2025–26 term.
Board members thanked SMIA negotiators for a collaborative process. A motion to adopt the agreement was moved by Miss Cabaral and seconded by Mr. Valencia; the motion carried unanimously. During the budget presentation later in the meeting, staff noted a $2.9 million set‑aside in fund balance to cover the SMIA settlement pending final budget adjustments.
The agreement adoption was presented as part of regular labor relations and budget planning; administration will complete statutory reporting and incorporate the settlement details into the district’s fiscal documents.
