Trustee urges review of proposed crematoriums near Babcock Elementary, cites cumulative health concerns

During the public‑comment period at the March 26 meeting, Sasha Vote, a Twin Rivers trustee for Area 7, asked the Sacramento air district to consider cumulative community health impacts tied to two proposed crematoriums located near Babcock Elementary.
"Families are very worried about what this could mean for their children's health and daily school experience," Vote said, noting the proposed crematoriums are ‘‘within less than 1,000 meters from Babcock Elementary.’’ She asked the district to prioritize proximity to schools and equity in its review and to consider extending the April 6 comment deadline so parents and working families can submit input.
The chair said staff would be in touch with Trustee Vote about the process and the possibility of extending comment opportunities. No immediate board action was taken; the matter was raised as public comment and staff committed to follow up.
The trustee also described efforts to re‑open a park adjacent to the school and asked the district to factor traffic, new housing and cumulative air burdens into its review.
