Fletcher town staff recommended that a weekly farmers market begin on Tuesdays between roughly 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., running from May through October, with an initial site proposed near the green maintenance building and the south parking lot at town hall.
The town manager told the council the maintenance-building site offers good visibility and requires only minor surface tweaks, while locating the market in the park would create substantial additional expense. "If we try to extend the auxiliary parking it’s about $188,000," the manager said, describing an estimate to make the park option more permanent.
Staff said they have a draft vendor packet and plan to send it to prospective vendors and regional contacts, including the county Cooperative Extension and local market networks, once the council confirms the location. The manager recommended beginning at the maintenance-building location and refining the operation in subsequent seasons if demand required a move.
Logistics discussed included day-of signage, vendor set-up flow and temporarily closing entrances to prevent through traffic. Staff said Parks and Recreation would vet vendor applications and handle day-of operations.
No formal vote was recorded; staff will send the vendor packet and proceed with vendor outreach if the council has no objections.
