Executive director: agency has 48 fiscal notes; staff preparing EWS changes in case recommendations take effect Aug. 1

The executive director reported that the agency has received 48 fiscal notes so far this legislative session, a figure far above typical totals for an even-numbered year, and said the volume has diverted staff time from commission work.
"So far this legislative session we have had 48 fiscal notes assigned to our agency," the executive director told commissioners, adding that most of the fiscal notes came from the House and that the agency is tracking which commission proposals have or have not advanced in the legislature. The director said it was too early to tell whether significant criminal-law legislation would be enacted this session.
Staff are working with Department of Corrections IT staff to prepare changes to the electronic worksheet system (EWS) used by probation officers so that, if the commission's proposals take effect Aug. 1, the EWS will be ready. The director noted DOC IT has competing priorities but staff are confident it understands the importance of preparing the updates.
The executive director's report closed with a reminder that the commission's proposed changes, if enacted or not blocked by the legislature, will require operational adjustments and coordination with DOC before any effective date.
