The Absecon City Council voted unanimously on Oct. 18 to adopt Resolution 2024‑136, authorizing the award of a contract to reconstruct Woodcraft Avenue and Chelsea Road under a New Jersey Department of Transportation grant as part of the city’s 2024 road program.
Administrator Jessica reported the project was bid separately from the remainder of the road program because of state review and grant requirements. She said the low bid came in competitively and that the city is familiar with the contractor; councilmembers indicated a desire to move forward quickly to complete as much work as possible before cold weather.
Engineer Ed said the remainder of the 2024 road program is being advertised, with a bid opening scheduled for Oct. 31, and that preparation for the 2025 road program is already underway. Councilmembers praised recent infrastructure improvements, including new netting at the tennis courts and work on Crest Avenue.
The resolution was adopted by roll call vote. The clerk recorded the vote as: Kane—yes; Clark—yes; D. Rose—yes; White—yes; Parker—yes; Lenda—yes. The council also approved the bill list by roll call and accepted the Oct. 3 meeting minutes (two abstentions were recorded on the minutes vote).
Councilmembers did not take public comment on the resolution during the meeting. Staff and engineers flagged related follow‑up items—including coordinating with DOT on nearby maintenance and continuing outreach about lighting and accessibility improvements—without setting additional action deadlines.
