The Batavia City School District board held its required budget hearing May 11, where Superintendent Mr. Smith presented a proposed 2026–27 spending plan with revenues "just over $66,000,000" and a budget-to-budget increase Mr. Smith described as about $2.8 million. He said health-insurance costs — which he described as up about 30% — were a major upward pressure and that the board is proposing a 2% tax-levy increase (approximately $415,000), below the district's cited maximum allowable increase of $591,000.
Mr. Smith told the public the budget and two board seats will appear on the ballot next Tuesday and reviewed voter logistics (polling locations and hours). After public comment, the board took a procedural voice vote to close the budget hearing.
In regular business the board approved the consent agenda by voice vote. The board also considered a new-business resolution to authorize ROC (identified in the meeting as the district’s risk/operations standard) to negotiate data-privacy agreements with vendors and third-party contractors on behalf of the Batavia City School District. The resolution was moved, seconded and the board recorded an "Aye" vote; the board president declared the motion approved.
No detailed roll-call tallies were read into the record for the motions recorded as voice votes. The board did not discuss substantive changes to the budget at the meeting; Mr. Smith invited the public to review budget details posted on the district website and announced related community events (candidate meet-and-greet and registration dates).
