District outlines spring testing schedule and introduces new work-readiness assessment

Assistant Superintendent Miss Bookout told the board the district’s spring testing is underway: Simons Elementary students took the M-STEP math assessment and will take the ELA portion next Tuesday; middle-school eighth graders completed the PSAT; high-school ninth graders and tenth graders will take the PSAT and the 11th graders will take the full SAT with the essay, followed by a new work-readiness assessment that replaces the ACT WorkKeys.
Bookout described the new work-readiness assessment as measuring workplace skills in three areas — math, reading and data — with student results reported on a five-level scale. Students who score at least level two in all areas will be awarded a national work-readiness credential, she said.
Bookout also said parent feedback forms will be sent to current Paddock and Simons families to inform class placements, with a submission deadline of April 24. Superintendent McMahon added district announcements including choir festival results, an upcoming Big Red Board Chat on April 16 at Simons, an adult-education graduation on May 20, and a stakeholder survey window from April 20 through May 8. School-choice applications were noted as open on the district website.
No formal board action on assessments was recorded; Bookout said the district will review results closely to guide supports for college and career readiness.
