Middleton committee finalizes Bike Week plans with community rides, kids events and local vendors

Committee members used the meeting to finalize logistics for the city’s upcoming Bike Week, identifying routes, volunteer leaders, participating businesses and outreach strategies.

Kirsten, the primary organizer, said she submitted three route options and recommended the 8.2-mile adult route as the principal community ride while keeping a separate two- to three-mile kid-friendly route focused on safety and decorations. She asked for five volunteers per ride to help marshal participants and manage group safety.

Local businesses and partners are lined up: Wheel and Sprocket will set up a tent and Madison Bikes was cited as a frequent partner for commuter stations; Long Table said it could open early and offer discounts to returning riders. Committee members discussed vendor ideas—examples included root beer floats, free bus passes, B-cycle passes and co-op gift certificates as prize incentives.

Members confirmed coordination for a bike rodeo and youth programming; Jim Logette was named as a contact for the rodeo. Staff said the community bike events would be promoted on city social media and encouraged selfies at station stops using a hashtag to increase engagement.

Organizers also discussed logistics for rainy-day contingencies (room reservations), volunteer training, and how to sequence safety talks and ride starts so families and commuters can participate.

No formal votes were recorded on event expenditures at the meeting; staff will finalize vendor commitments and volunteer rosters ahead of the scheduled community rides.
