Merced City School District to open centralized operational support services center, officials say

Brian Bane, director of facilities for Merced City School District, said the district will hold a ribbon cutting for a new operational support services center that will bring the district’s IT, ET, facility services, nutrition services and warehouse teams together in one location.

“It's really going to be more efficient when it comes to district distribution of goods,” Bane said, adding the consolidation should make it easier for staff to serve students.

Juan Ortiz, introduced as lead warehouse worker for Merced City School District, described the layout and storage plans for the new facility. He said the district will consolidate dry paper goods, dry food, instructional supplies, refrigerated items and freezer storage into a single, climate-controlled warehouse with dedicated spaces for dry storage and refrigerated storage.

“The entire warehouse is going to be insulated, uh, cooled, and heated,” Ortiz said, noting that consolidation will end the need to operate out of three separate buildings and will centralize the packing division that prepares school lunches for multiple speed-line sites.

Monica, identified in the remarks as the packing manager, said staff are moving to the new building after long service and expressed enthusiasm about the space. The recorded remarks include a line in the transcript that reads, “We've been at Uber for about 30 years,” which appears to be a transcription error; the packing manager was speaking about long service and the upcoming move.
