Senate approves competitive-bidding and rural-priority rules for Rural Health Transformation Fund

Senator Bryan, speaking for the bill, said it requires that the most rural areas receive priority and that actual care providers, not intermediaries, be given precedence in funding decisions. The bill also requires a competitive bidding process for a health information exchange and contains other procurement-related provisions.
The measure passed by use of the afternoon roll call, with no floor questions recorded when Senator Bryan explained the bill.
Supporters said the changes aim to direct limited transformation funding to underserved rural providers and increase transparency in award decisions.
