Communications Director Rupinski informed the Sawyer County Public Safety Committee that the county’s communications center has activated text‑to‑911 and that April 12–18 is National Telecommunicators Week.
"They can text the dispatch center now if there's an emergency. And we can text back to them," Rupinski said, describing the new capability for people who cannot safely make a voice call.
Call volumes: staff reported March 2026 calls for service totaled 1,465, an increase from March 2025, and a year‑to‑date total of 2,875. The report also referenced a recent run of 384 911 calls and 2,239 non‑emergency calls for a subtotal of 2,623 and a year‑to‑date total of 7,966.
Emergency services staffing and reporting: an emergency services speaker described work to reconcile run locations between the dispatch center and reporting software, building a township‑level spreadsheet to improve location accuracy, and ongoing training and medical‑director review of reports. The speaker said preparations are under way for summer events including the Lumberjack festival, Fishing Has No Boundaries and Musky Fest. A listed mutual‑aid run had an average run time shown in the report as 54 minutes; staff clarified that the long duration was due to that incident being a mutual‑aid activation.
Provenance: communications report (SEG 095–SEG 138); emergency services update (SEG 204–SEG 271).
