Beach Haven — The Borough Council on July 31 acknowledged a donated vehicle from Sea Shell and Fantasy Island that will serve as a command vehicle and house drone equipment for emergency response.
Council members said the vehicle will be parked at borough headquarters and accessible to the fire company and police department for drone deployment; keeping the drones in a charged vehicle should speed response compared with retrieving equipment from the police station. Friends of Beach Haven helped fund the drones and training, and the mayor and council publicly thanked the donors.
Council members said initial plans call for mechanics to install charging capability after the summer season so batteries are kept topped while the vehicle is ready to deploy. No policy change was adopted at this meeting; staff will implement operational access protocols so qualified personnel can retrieve and deploy equipment as needed.
