The Sheboygan City Public Works Committee approved a one-year extension of the contract permitting Sheboygan County Interfaith to use Fulton Park for the summer farmers market while staff negotiate a long-term arrangement.
Director Peterson explained that the existing farmers market contract is expiring and that staff want a one-year extension "so it'll give us time to work on a new long-term extended contract," allowing more time to consider amendments either party may seek.
Alder Boris pressed staff for detail on what topics were under negotiation. In response, counsel said the city generally avoids discussing negotiation positions in public before agreements are settled. "We try not to discuss negotiations in public meetings before anything has been settled," Attorney Madras said. Staff and counsel said timing and plans for the park's future were among the factors shaping the talks; specific negotiation positions were not disclosed.
Alder Rust moved to approve the one-year extension and Alder Bellinger seconded; the committee voted to approve the extension.
The one-year extension preserves the market's location for the coming season while staff finalize terms for a longer contract. The committee did not disclose specific commercial terms or proposed operational changes during the discussion.
