Bike club granted permission for May 3 Siko Straight ride

Columbiana — Representatives of the Outspoken Wheelman bicycle club told the Columbiana City Council on April 7 that the Siko Straight ride, an invitational that has run in the region for decades, is planned for May 3 and requested use of Mirror Lake Pavilion and related route approvals.
David Kohler spoke for the club, described attendance that ranged from about 35 riders on poor-weather years to more than 100 on good days, and said the club provides route marking, coffee and donuts, and safety measures. "Our bike club's been based in Youngstown area for 53 years now," Kohler said. He said the club hoped to use the Mirror Lake Pavilion for early setup and would leave the pavilion cleaner than they found it.
Council members moved to approve the application as submitted; the motion passed on roll call. Parks staff were assigned to coordinate pavilion access and finalize route details with organizers.
What’s next: Organizers will work with parks staff on arrival times and route maps ahead of the May 3 ride.
