Absecon council honors culinary students and Eagle Scout, and swears in Patrolman Gregory O'Connell
Summary
The council presented resolutions recognizing Absecon High culinary students and Eagle Scout Alexander, and the chief administered the oath to Patrolman Gregory O'Connell, who was welcomed by council and staff.
At its Dec. 5 meeting the Absecon City Council presented two recognitions and performed a police swearing-in ceremony.
Councilwoman Parker read and presented Resolution 147, expressing appreciation to Absecon High School culinary students who prepared luncheons for the Absecon Senior Center. "You did a lot more than just cook that day and you deserve all of this and more," Parker said as students were invited forward for a photograph and applause.
The council also read Resolution 148 commending Eagle Scout Alexander for designing and constructing a solar-panel–operated cell-phone charging station and map board at the city community garden; Councilman L presented the resolution.
Later in the meeting Chief of Police administered the oath to Patrolman Gregory O'Connell. The chief reviewed O'Connell's background, including prior service with the West Wildwood Police Department and a bachelor’s degree from Thomas Edison State University, and the council and audience offered congratulations.
Both recognition resolutions were approved by roll call vote earlier in the meeting; the swearing-in was ceremonial and not a vote item.
