Elementary staff report PBIS rollout and early improvements in school climate

Mr. Bruce described behavior-recognition systems (Viking dollars for attendance and behavior; Star dollars issued by any staff member for notable examples of positive behavior) and a school store launched in March where students can redeem earned rewards for small items or save for larger items. He said staff have reported positive reactions and that the program has become a point of staff engagement.
Next steps include incorporating bus drivers into the recognition program, adding an academic-growth component to reward systems, collecting implementation data to measure effectiveness, and expanding tier-two and tier-three supports in future years.
Board members commended the administration for recent crisis response and overall progress on school climate. The presentation was informational; no formal board action on PBIS was taken during the committee meeting.
