The Douglas Unified School District board approved five teachers to participate in an Impact Grant-supported master's cohort with American InterContinental University. Superintendent Anna Samaniego described the cohort selection process as "a very rigorous interview process" and said previous recipients of the Impact Grant had moved into leadership roles. The five approved candidates were Jessica Galaz (Clawson), Giselle Romero (Douglas High School), Nereida Acosta (Joe Carlson), Alyssa Lindeman (Stevenson) and Josue de la Rey (Stevenson). Board member Mr. Lindeman recused himself from the discussion and vote on this item, and the record notes his recusal due to a potential conflict of interest; the remaining board members approved the cohort on roll call.
The district said the program runs roughly 10 months and that past cohorts produced leaders who later moved into district administration. The board congratulated the selected teachers and asked administration to facilitate the university registration and paperwork.
