Board approves WestEd memorandum to pilot integrated statistics and quantitative reasoning course

The Douglas Unified School District board unanimously approved a memorandum of understanding with WestEd to continue curriculum development and pilot an Integrated Statistics and Quantitative Reasoning (ISQR) course at Douglas High School.
District staff and advisory-board members described a year-and-a-half collaboration producing original curriculum materials because, as one presenter said, this "is a completely new pathway for math education" without ready-made textbooks. The district reported it plans to pilot the pathway in 2026-27, estimate about 200 students at Douglas High School would participate and said four teachers are slated to teach the course in the first year. The district also said it has collaborated with the Dana Center at UT Austin and has involved students on an advisory board to review lesson materials.
Board members requested regular updates as the pilot progresses and said they expect a report when the course is ready to launch. The motion to approve the WestEd MOU passed on a roll-call vote.
The pilot represents an effort to broaden applied math options beyond traditional algebra sequences and to embed financial-literacy and real-world problem solving into high-school math requirements.
