City staff presented a redesigned City of Maricopa website on April 7 and said the migration to Granicus’ Open Cities platform will improve mobile parity, search, event calendars and ADA compliance.
Luis, the project lead, said the migration began after a 2024 review of Google Analytics and internal feedback; staff narrowed and consolidated roughly 224 pages to about 170, migrated the news archive and implemented a responsive mobile design so desktop edits appear on mobile automatically. The new site includes a customizable homepage slider or rotating video banner, animated task buttons that staff can change in real time, pop‑up banners for high‑priority notices, and a calendar that can be filtered by category and searched by keyword.
Luis emphasized ADA Tier‑2 compliance features: the platform will block publishing new content that does not meet the city’s accessibility standard and the team scheduled a launch for April 21 at 9:00 a.m. with a 30‑day back‑end rollover of the previous site to allow recovery of any missed content.
Councilmembers asked whether user analytics and favorite resident tasks informed the homepage design; Luis and staff confirmed that Google Analytics and page‑use metrics shaped the design and that task buttons can be updated quickly. Council suggested adding resident favorites such as report a problem, newsletter sign‑up, CIP and budget links for faster access.
The presentation concluded with an invitation for public feedback after the April 21 launch and a request for patience as staff fine‑tune the site.
No council action was required; staff will proceed with the migration and solicit feedback after launch.
