Public speaker presents paperwork alleging a Brown Act violation; trustee conduct and complaint flagged for future agenda

A community speaker raised a Brown Act-related complaint during public comment on Jan. 14, presenting public records she said support a finding that a trustee interrupted a prior speaker in violation of open-meeting rules.

Marie Peterb told the board she filed a complaint with Margaret Chid Duster & Associates and said the complaint sustained that a trustee (named in her materials) interrupted and curtailed a speaker’s remarks at an earlier meeting. She said witnesses described the interruption as "terrifying" and asked the board to receive and file the documents, and to provide an apology and accountability.

Board members responded during member reports: trustees noted that Brown Act matters require agendizing for discussion and some said they intended to submit a formal written request to have the complaint placed on a future agenda. Superintendent Dr Wesley reminded members of board procedures for placing items on a future agenda and said that agendizing the complaint would be the appropriate process.
