At the Tri‑Creek School Board meeting, a series of operational and instructional updates preceded the board''s finance discussion.
Construction and facilities: Mr. Cherry of Skillman Corporation reported active work on the district natatorium, saying concrete for the deep‑end floor and walls is in place, shallow‑end pours are complete and shallow‑end wall forming is scheduled for the following week. He noted elevator masonry and locker‑room tile work are in progress and said the project remains on track for an opening before school starts. "Once we get all this concrete work done, they'll be able to do the leak testing," Mr. Cherry said.
Assessment and instruction: Tammy, a curriculum and instruction staff member, presented SAT/ILEARN results. Tri‑Creek''s ELA pass rate rose to 58% compared with the state rate of 51%, and math showed substantial growth from 22% to 32% year over year. Tammy said the district will expand multi‑tiered systems of support, add through‑course checkpoints for high‑school instruction and emphasize literacy in the coming year.
Technology and devices: Jason Wathen ("Jay") outlined a plan to move district instruction from Canvas to Google Classroom to capture an estimated $35,000 in annual savings and to consolidate parent grade reporting in Skyward. He also flagged House Bill 1004 compliance requirements effective July 1: teachers must be able to block non‑instructional device use during instruction, and parents must be provided after‑hours monitoring/time‑limit controls; the district will evaluate device replacements to meet those features.
Personnel and athletics: The superintendent''s personnel report discussed enrollment pressures in grades five through seven, one retirement under consideration, efforts to redistribute registrar duties, and a recommended restructure of athletics leadership to help operate new facilities (including the natatorium). The board approved several personnel items; two incoming athletic hires introduced themselves and pledged community engagement and support for the upcoming referendum.
Votes and procurement: The board approved multiple consent‑agenda items by voice vote, including non‑bid construction purchases (weight/fitness equipment and landscape touch‑ups), overnight trips for Lowell High School boys' track and girls' basketball, the Oak Hill Elementary Hobart dishmachine purchase for $54,451.49 and the consent bundle (minutes, payroll/claims, personnel report). The motion passed on unanimous "Aye" voice votes.
Donations and next meeting: The board accepted donations from local organizations and individuals supporting student activities and scholarships and announced the next board meeting and a soon‑to‑be‑posted board vacancy.
The meeting adjourned after business concluded.
