The Merced City School District board on May 13 announced actions taken in closed session earlier in the evening: it approved two settlement agreements (OAH case numbers 2025030253 and 2025030544) and made a set of administrative appointments.
President Laceretti read the closed‑session votes, which were recorded as 4–0 with Trustee Jeang absent. The board approved the appointment of Curtis Boena as principal at Tanaya Middle School, Lucasia Sikyros as principal at Miral (reported as “Mure”/“Miral”) Elementary, Anthony Arista as principal at Rivera Elementary, and Rick Her as coordinator of pupil services.
Each appointment was recognized with brief remarks from the appointees at the public meeting. Trustees applauded and congratulated the new site leaders.
Why it matters: Leadership placements at school sites shape instructional priorities and daily school operations. Trustees and the superintendent emphasized continuity and support for students and staff as the new principals assume their roles.
Board action: The appointments and settlement approvals were announced as carried (votes recorded during the closed session report). The board did not reopen discussion of the settlements in public beyond the formal announcement.
