City manager outlines water flushing, gazebo repairs and sewer investigation

City Manager Sheridan briefed Hudson City Council on operations and maintenance matters, including infrastructure repairs and a sanitary-sewer investigation.

Sheridan said the city will begin its twice-yearly water-system flushing next week and advised residents to consult the city website or call public works if they experience discolored water. He said public-works staff will also close the bandstand and gazebo next week to replace rotted boards, repaint, and replace front steps with sandstone; the engineering department has placed an architect-on-purchase-order to expedite design, and the project will go to the Architectural Review Board and then to formal bids.

Sheridan also addressed recent sanitary-sewer backups affecting Stony Hill and Colony Park. He read an update from the county sewer director that the new pump station was functioning during a heavy rain event and that heavy inflow and infiltration likely caused backups citywide; the county is investigating downstream issues and will add an inflow-and-infiltration study to next year’s capital plan. Sheridan said city staff checked stormwater crossings and found no evident leakage into the sanitary system and will continue coordinating with the county.

Sheridan invited residents with discolored water to flush taps and contact public works for assistance. Councilors asked clarifying questions about the gazebo lift deadline for July 4 and about the sewer backup, and Sheridan said the timeline for the lift and bidding looks achievable and that the county is investigating downstream causes.
