"The road will be shut down on the 13th," Nordtvedt said, adding that detours will remain on county roads.
Greg Bolt, identified in the meeting as highway commissioner, told the board the contractor will excavate about 15 feet to lower a curve near Wilmot Mountain. He said the excavation period is expected to last "anywhere from six weeks to two months," and outside that intensive excavation window two-way traffic will be maintained. Bolt said crews plan to reopen the intersections before the county fair.
Officials described the detour route as staying entirely on county roads. Supervisor Nordtvedt and others warned local motorists and businesses that the detour will be "cumbersome" and may inconvenience some business owners while construction is underway, but they framed the work as necessary to address a chronic high-accident location.
The board did not take a formal vote on the construction update; the highway commissioner answered members' questions and provided timeline details. The board was advised to expect phased closures starting immediately, a hard closure in early May, and full or partial reopening timed to the county fair schedule.
