A Volunteer Ascension representative delivered a 2025 recap to the Ascension Parish Finance Committee on April 7 and the committee voted to forward a proposed five-year cooperative endeavor agreement renewing the parish's $25,000-per-year support for the organization to the full council.
The presenter said Volunteer Ascension collected 12,587 individual school-supply items in 2025, with donated supplies valued at $22,180, and that the program helped 1,109 students last year. The organization reported 222 volunteers provided 1,067 hours in 2025.
The representative detailed longer-term impact dating to the program's 1997 founding: 10,833 total volunteers and 73,218 volunteer hours; donated school-supply value listed as more than $834,000 and a cumulative 62,353 children assisted. The presenter also highlighted a youth program, Connect Teens, stating 590 teen volunteers have contributed 11,436 hours since the program began.
The representative asked the committee to continue supporting Volunteer Ascension's mission to mobilize volunteers for disasters, local emergencies and everyday needs. Committee members raised no objections and the motion to send the renewal agreement to the full council carried procedurally.
The agreement will next be considered by the full Ascension Parish Council, where final approval and any contract terms will be determined.
