Prescott Valley — The Town Council on Sept. 9, 2026 adopted Ordinance 2026-978, which prohibits outdoor feeding and the intentional attraction of wildlife within Prescott Valley.
A town staff member told the council the town has ‘‘experienced an increase in wildlife activity, particularly involving javelina, skunks, and raccoons in our residential areas,’’ and argued that feeding wildlife contributes to property damage, public-safety concerns and disease transmission. The staff presentation said the town currently lacked a regulation on wildlife feeding and that adopting one would align Prescott Valley with neighboring jurisdictions.
A council member moved to read the ordinance by title on two occasions and place it for final passage; the motion was seconded and the mayor announced the ordinance passed unanimously. The ordinance text in the public record indicates it repeals and reenacts section 6-2-40 in chapter 6 of the town code and states it will be effective 30 days after passage.
The meeting transcript records no separate public testimony, no recorded roll-call vote tally, and no council-requested amendments during the hearing. The town’s staff presentation and the ordinance language emphasize a mix of prevention, education and enforcement as the town’s approach to reduce animal attractants.
