Escondido main library finishing renovations; solar panels to be installed, council to reaffirm trustees

"We are completing the last few weeks of the construction project," Robert, the City of Escondido representative, told trustees, adding that staff expect the installation of furniture and equipment by late May and early June. He also said the Climatec team would begin installing solar panels in the library parking lot by the end of the month and that the installation would take about six weeks.
The schedule leaves staff time to finalize outside-area items before announcing a firm public reopening date. Robert said staff will provide a return-to-library announcement at the trustees' next meeting.
Why it matters: the timing affects when the public can resume on-site services at the main branch and when limited-edition library items and new programming tied to the reopening will be available.
Trustee appointments: Robert told trustees that the Escondido City Council will consider reaffirming trustee appointments at its April 15 meeting. He said there was one applicant for an open trustee seat.
No formal action on construction or contracts was recorded during the trustees' meeting. The trustees approved the previous meeting's minutes by a manual roll-call vote earlier in the meeting (approved 4-0). The trustees will receive a firm reopen date and additional operational details when staff finish outstanding finance and project items.
