"This year is America's semi-quincentennial," Payne said, referring to the 250th anniversary of 1776, and noted the city has installed America 250 flags at most city facilities. Payne said residents will be able to spot the flags around town and that a flag will be displayed soon at the Meadow.
Payne described a slate of community events under a patriotic theme: a Memorial Day Men's Softball Tournament, Puzzle Palooza, the Red, White and Blue Owl event at the Aquatic Center and the city's Fourth of July parade. She said the city anniversary party and a barbecue throw down are scheduled for May and encouraged residents to follow the City of Show Low's social media pages and website for schedules and updates.
Payne also noted the Fourth of July parade typically attracts a large crowd and observed that the valley is already experiencing high temperatures, saying it is "over 100' in the valley," underscoring that summer events will occur in hot weather. The city did not provide attendance estimates or detailed schedules during the segment.
Mayor Leech closed the program by thanking Payne and wishing residents well: "You guys have a great day and God bless."
