Board approves Melbourne Elementary modernization contract, vendor awards and oversight appointments

District staff said the Melbourne Elementary modernization project will begin June 1, 2025 (after school lets out) and aims for completion by the end of the 2025–26 school year, with minimal disruption to instruction and interim housing for classes if needed. Board members asked about interim housing plans and supports for teachers who must move classrooms; staff confirmed coordination with principals and negotiated support for moves.
The board also approved bid awards for ABC 1662 (music instruments) to two vendors to provide options for schools using VAPA funds and Proposition 28 monies. Separately, the board selected CWDL as the external auditor for annual audits covering fiscal years 2024–25 through 2026–27 (with two optional one-year extensions), a process completed after a competitive proposal and interview review.
Finally, the board appointed four community members to the citizen oversight committee (COC) to provide bond oversight; a vacancy remains for a bona fide taxpayers’ association representative and staff will continue outreach.
