Humble County reports lower tax rate this year; board sets budget hearings in April

A county staff member explained that state mandates limit how much of valuation increases can be used for tax purposes, which contributed to the rate decrease described as a 2.77 reduction in the taxation rate. The staff noted the county’s mailing to landowners included school and city figures where applicable and that no written objections were filed; commissioners heard some verbal concerns but said the county had limited options under state guidelines.
Following the taxation hearing, commissioners scheduled the fiscal year 2027 budget and five‑year program hearing for April 6 at 8:45 a.m. and later set the county’s official budget hearing for April 20 at 9:00 a.m. Both dates were moved by motion and recorded as carried.
The Truth in Taxation hearing was opened at about 8:32 a.m., closed at approximately 8:35 a.m., and the Truth in Taxation meeting was adjourned. Commissioners reminded residents of upcoming deadlines for tax payments and the evening conference board meeting.
