St. Charles Parish announces universal pre-K4 for 2026–27 school year

Superintendent announced the district will offer universal pre-K4 beginning in 2026–27; applications open online and first-round student selections will begin after Feb. 28, 2026. Kindergarten registration windows and temporary residency guidance were also provided.
The superintendent reported to the St. Charles Parish School Board that universal pre-K4 will be offered in St. Charles Parish Public Schools beginning in the 2026–27 school year.
Families seeking pre-K or kindergarten were given instructions: children who will be 5 years old by Sept. 30, 2026 are eligible to register for kindergarten. Online registration is available under the Families tab on the district website, with in-person registration offered March 16–20, 9:30 a.m.–12:30 p.m. Applications for pre-K are currently being accepted; the first round of student selections for pre-K will begin after Feb. 28, 2026. The superintendent said eligibility and placements are based on age, residential area and income and are not awarded on a first-come, first-served basis; free transportation will be provided for students enrolled in the 4-year-old program. Temporary residency applications for pre-K and kindergarten enrollments will be processed beginning June 1, 2026.
The superintendent also highlighted district Arts Month activities and the district Artsfest on March 14, and encouraged families to check the district’s social media pages for testimonials and program details.
