Staff described the contract as an initial fee of $895 plus $165 per month for ongoing services; the council discussed authorizing the mayor to sign a contract totaling approximately $2,380 for an additional property. Several members asked why the city could not use a local pest-control firm in Middletown; staff said the city had tried the local firm previously without success and invited the local vendor to submit a new proposal.
An amendment to the resolution was moved by Massie and voted on; the meeting record shows the amendment vote as two-to-one against the amendment. Council then voted on the amended resolution and the amended contract authorization passed with two votes in favor and one opposing vote on the amendment. The mayor said the city could cancel the contract later if a different vendor proved preferable.
Council members asked staff to reach out to the Middletown-based vendor and to accept a proposal should it be submitted. The council’s action authorizes the mayor to sign the contract to provide immediate pest-control services for the courthouse building while leaving room for local competition in the future.
