Rutherford County students win Desmos math and art competition awards; MTSU awards $500 scholarship

Rutherford County Schools used part of its April 9 meeting to celebrate student achievement in regional Desmos math and Desmos art competitions held at Middle Tennessee State University.
Dr. Kyle Prince and Ms. Melinda Fleischer reported strong district showings across divisions: multiple Rockvale High and Central Magnet students placed in top 10s for algebra, geometry, algebra II, calculus and statistics, with some winners eligible to advance to the state competition. Central Magnet took first place in several middle-school team categories.
In the Desmos art competition, the teacher division winner included Jonathan Anderson. Student art awards included honorable mentions (Amaya Ferguson, Zahara Albadran, Peyton Hulsey) and placements through first place: Santiago Oviedo Mendez (5th), Kate Smith (4th), Austin Baker (3rd), Marianne Hill Fairness Carpio (2nd) and Audrey Mangrum (1st). A speaker announced that Audrey received a $500 scholarship from MTSU.
Board members applauded the students and sponsors, and staff thanked Redstone Federal Credit Union, MTSU and Desmos for supporting the event and providing winners' shirts.
