Cathedral City’s council on April 8 approved a construction contract to address localized flooding at the Cypress Road and Santoro Drive intersection near James Workman Middle School.
Engineering staff told the council the location has experienced recurring flooding during rain events. The scope includes replacing existing storm drainage piping, adding a street catch basin, installing storm drain piping and an outlet structure inside the existing retention basin. The city prepared plans in‑house, advertised the project and received two bids; Wright Construction Engineering Corporation was the lowest responsive bidder.
Staff recommended awarding the construction contract to Wright and approving a 20% contingency and material testing services. Funding for the project was identified from gas tax and Measure A funds; staff presented a total construction budget of approximately $101,076. City staff told the council the low bid came in below the engineers’ estimate.
Council moved and unanimously approved the construction award and related contracts. No public comment was received on the item.
City staff said construction will be coordinated with neighborhood stakeholders and will proceed after contract execution and material testing arrangements are finalized.
