Council approves wastewater plant contracts for filter media replacement and control-system upgrade

Macomb — The City Council approved two contracts for maintenance and upgrades at the municipal wastewater treatment plant.
Public works staff introduced a $44,953.60 contract to Aqua Aerobic Systems, Inc. to replace cloth filter media on the plant’s diamond-shaped filters, explaining the units installed in 2017 are labor intensive to service and that contractor crews are needed. “There is currently $50,000 in the budget for this,” staff said, and the council approved the award by roll call.
The council also approved a $37,600 contract with Data Link Systems to upgrade the plant’s control/server system. Staff said the system was installed in 2017 on Windows Server 2012, which lost vendor support at the end of 2023, and that the proposed work includes new hardware and migration to Windows Server 2022 to restore vendor support. Staff told council $40,000 is budgeted for the upgrade and the motion passed by roll call.
Both projects were presented as budgeted maintenance and infrastructure items; staff said the work will restore supported software and address maintenance needs that the in-house crew cannot complete while maintaining other duties.
