The Zoning Board granted a temporary use permit for SLT Holdings / Tiger Market to place a freestanding 8-by-20-by-9-foot freezer in the parking lot at 27522 Northwestern Highway. The applicant asked for a 24-month placement but the board and staff clarified the ordinance provides an initial 12-month permit with a 12-month renewal.
Rebecca Lazarus, representing SLT Holdings and the Tiger Market grocery store, said larger, on-site freezer capacity is needed to buy in larger quantities and keep prices affordable amid supply-chain and tariff volatility. “To keep prices low, we've moved away from just-in-time deliveries and now purchase goods in larger quantities,” Lazarus said, asking the board to approve a temporary container to preserve product quality and service.
Staff recommended favorable consideration, stating a temporary industrial freezer is not expected to have adverse effects on surrounding properties and that placement limits parking impact. Board members asked clarifying questions; the applicant said the unit would be freestanding and leased on a two-year term that can be revisited after the first year. The board approved the permit and noted the initial permit period is one year under the ordinance; the applicant may return to request renewal for an additional 12 months.
What’s next: The permit is effective for one year; the applicant must coordinate placement and permitting with city staff and return before the board to request any renewal.
